It appears only the main contact and secondary contact can access the client portal. Sometimes a company will want more than two users to upload documents, and most of the time it won't be the main contact doing the uploading.
It would therefore be useful to be have more options for giving clients access to the portal. We should be able to add multiple contacts and then choose who can and cannot access.
Additionally, it would be useful to be able to choose which staff members get notifications for a client when something is uploaded. Only the client manager gets notifications, and most of the time they are not the ones who will be downloading PDFs.

Those two ideas already exist and I would encourage you to search for them, add your comments if you wish, and vote for them if you agree with them. The more people vote for those, the more likely the development team will pick up on those.

I think AM-I-159 has already gained a lot of traction. The issue, according to Mike from the development team who has recently commented on the idea, is that it is complex to implement as there are a lot of implications to take into account
There are other similar ideas but I think those two seem to go along more with yours.
